Early morning snail and worm hunting

Lately Payton's been into looking for snails. When we are outside she wants to lift up rocks or dig in the dirt and see if we can find any. Now a couple of the neighbor kids come over to help us too if they see us out there digging.

One morning Payton woke me up and asked if we could go out looking before we headed to school. She and I bundled up, still in our pajamas, and headed outside. She didn't want to go back inside until we found THREE snails. Not worms. Snails. Thankfully we did. The whole time I was thinking, "it's cold out here and I'm standing in my front yard in my jammies." Truthfully I loved every second of our snail hunting on that early morning, but I was very thankful we found our snails sooner than later.

A week or two ago, I decided to take the camera outside with me while I was weeding our front beds. Here's a couple of snails we found as well as a worm.

Ick! Payton was excited though and that's what mattered.

One of my favorites in life has been watching this friendship and sisterly bond form between my two girls. I always wanted to have a sister. I feel so blessed to have two little girls that hopefully will continue to be close and will be great friends.

In April I started watching our friend's Jason and Nika's daughter, Kiley, on Thursdays. She's with us every week for one day, whether it be on a Thursday or an occasional Monday. The girls and I are very excited/happy to have her here. They all play so well together and it's fun watching the three of them grow together. I especially love when Gracie and Kiley have a conversation... I just wish I knew what they were saying.

On Friday, March 12th, a few of my greatest friends and I went to Legally Blonde at the 5th Avenue Theater. We all met up at Purple in Seattle for dinner and drinks before heading to the show.

First, I LOVE Legally Blonde!

Little fish

Payton FINALLY started swimming lessons a week ago. We've been wanting to start her really learning to swim forever ago, but due to her sensitive skin we held off until it started to calm down more, but then one thing or another would come up and... well.. let's just say, we are just NOW starting her.

If Payton had it her way, she would spend 8 of her 12 waking hours in the bath and the other four chasing someone or being chased whilst taking a minute or two for a few snacks in between. That being said, she's very overdue for swimming lessons.

Gracie a little dip in a "puddle" that was on the ground near the hot tub. She so badly wanted to jump in the pool with her sister. It took a lot of restraint to keep her away from the deeper water, meaning deeper than the puddle.

When it was time for the lesson to be over, meltdown explosion took place! It was next to impossible to get her out of the swim center and to the car. I'm sure other mommas could hear the irritation in my voice as I was trying to get my wet squirmy daughter showered and dressed in the locker room without making a larger scene than the one that was already taking place by my little stubborn girl.

Since that exciting day, Payton now knows that after the lesson is over, she showers and heads home without a wrestling match. She's been so much better! Phew!

Last Thursday Payton invited me to come to her class for a Valentine's day party. We got to sit in on circle time and hear about what they do during the day. All the kids had made their parents a Valentine. So sweet! While we were there we decorated cookies and had a snack together. I truly enjoyed myself and am so proud of what a good little girl Payton is.

On Tuesday, February 2nd, Payton turned four years old. She had celebrated with her friends on the Sunday before at Pump It Up, but on her birthday she got to celebrate with her friends at school and have dinner with her family.

Payton took Rice Krispy Treats to school to share with her friends for snack. She was very excited to be able to have a spacial treat at school.

Daddy took at short day at work and when he came home, he brought her flowers for her birthday. So sweet! What girl doesn't like receiving flowers?! What a wonderful daddy!

We asked Payton where she wanted to go to dinner for her birthday and she said Red Robin. done. We invited all all of our family. Sadly not everyone was able to come, but they were missed.

How could it be that Ryan and I are parents to a FOUR year old? Where has the time gone? How has she gotten so big so fast? How do we have such a wonderful, caring, sweet, sensitive, FOUR year old girl???

February 2nd, Payton turned four years old. I can't believe it's already been a year since her third birthday.

On January 31st we celebrated Payton's fourth birthday at Pump It Up in Lynnwood with all of her close friends. It was great to be able to ask Payton what kind of party she wanted and where.. Princess and at Pump it Up. Done!

We all had a wonderful time at Payton's birthday party. Both girls were exhausted by the time we got home and took great naps! Payton's so lucky to have so many wonderful friends who were able to come and celebrate her special day.

A couple of weeks ago the girls we celebrated our friend, Paige, her third birthday at Jump Planet in Bothell. It was a wonderful evening filled with lots of friends, energy, jumping, running, dinner, and cupcakes. The girls and I had a great time!

I grow more and more in love with my family every day. I'm so proud of my husband and my little girls, I feel truly blessed.

Our little peanut is now nineteen months old. I can't believe it. Her personality is growing more everyday and she definitely has a mind of her own. She loves to make us laugh, she's sweet and affectionate, she is talking more everyday, and she absolutely LOVES her big sister.

Gracie's such a happy little girl and she brings smiles to our faces daily. We love you Gracie! I'm so proud you are my daughter.

January was an eventful month for the Zdeneks. We kicked off the new year with a couple of trips to the Emergency Room and many trips to the doctor.

At the beginning of the month, Gracie's eczema was at it's worst which led us to an allergist to figure out if there was something she was eating that could be causing her rashy skin. Results: no allergies. Phew!

One Saturday morning Payton was hiding from Gracie and when she popped out to scare her, she caught her foot on her pj bottoms and fell onto the hard floor, causing her to put her top teeth into her lip. First trip to the Emergency room, thankfully no stitches.

The following Monday, Payton woke up at 2:30 with a cough that sounded like a barking seal and Payton saying she couldn't breathe. Second trip the ER.. thankfully a quick liquid steroid was given to her and she could breathe again and the bark went away. Sadly she still to this day is fighting a cough, but nothing like it was. Phew!!!!

Finally a couple of weeks ago I was leaving a girlfriend's home when all of a sudden I was doubled over in pain and couldn't move. The on-call nurse thought it might be appendicitis. Third trip the ER.. thankfully no appendicitis, just an ovarian cyst that will hopefully go away. My doctor took me out of work for a couple of weeks since the pain has been difficult, but I get to be home with the girls and that has been WONDERFUL!

We're looking forward to what February has to offer. Hopefully no trips to the ER and a lot less money spent on co-pays. Happy New Year every one!! ;)

Christmas: Take One ~Grandma's house

On Christmas Eve, for as long as I can remember, we always spend it with my Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Keeping with the tradition, we headed to my Grandparents house after Ryan got home from work. It was fabulous being able to sit and relax and visit with our family.

Christmas day, we all headed downstairs to see what Santa brought. We were SPOILED!

Christmas: Take Three ~Grammi's house

Christmas morning, around 10:30, we headed to Ryan's mom's house to celebrate Christmas. Joanne had been cooking all morning and as soon as we opened the door, we could smell the yumminess!!! She did an Italian themed day for food, and everything was so delicious! We had baked Mostacholi, pasta with shrimp, Chicken Parmesan, meatballs and sausage.. I can't even begin to list EVERYTHING that was there. There was so much food and it was all so yummy and constantly coming out of the oven, we couldn't even put a dent in it. We ate all day long, opened presents, drank champagne, played games, spent time with each other and had a wonderful time being with family.

Christmas: Take Four ~the cabin

For as long as I can remember, on Christmas morning we would all wake up, see what Santa brought us and then we would head to the cabin until we had to go back to school. Now that I'm older, I don't have the luxury of being up there for a week and a half to snowmobile, sled, and overall.. just play in the snow and not worry about anything.. Sadly, we have to work, take care of our dogs and have at home responsibilities. Oh the joys of having to grow up! ;) But at least my little family and I can head over for a day or two and see my Dad and Step-mom and enjoy a little fun in the snow.

Ryan, the girls and I, got up Saturday morning and headed over the pass. We got there about noon and immediately Payton, Ryan, Rosie, my sister-in-law Tracy and our nephew's Aspen and Trent headed out to sled.

Monday, December 21st, our friends Jason and Nika asked if I could watch their daughter Kiley for them for the day. Of course I was MORE than willing/happy to do that! The girls were equally excited to have their friend over as well. Jason dropped Kiley off at 6 a.m. and picked her up just after 6 in the evening. Payton and Gracie were very disappointed when she left because they had so much fun together.

Gracie kept looking for Kiley the next day, wondering where she was. They two of them play very well together. We all had so much fun with Kiley. It's actually not much different having another child in the house, surprisingly. A lot more busy, but overall pretty easy. Payton was a huge help with getting things for the girls, entertaining them when one was asleep and just being a great big sister! We're looking forward to watching Kiley again in a couple of weeks!

Saturday, December 12th, Payton's pre-school had their Christmas program. Payton had been practicing at school and at home for the weeks prior, so we were all very excited to see the final product! It brought me to tears when i saw her class coming into the auditorium. They were all lined up and following their teacher.. Just thinking about how big she's getting, made me so sad on how fast time is flying! However, I couldn't have been prouder!

Second Annual Cookie Exchange

Santa Brunch

The morning of December 6th, we went to (what was our 2nd time) the annual Santa Brunch at Mill Creek Country Club. My grandparents have been member's at MCCC for over 30 years. They invited us to bring the girls for brunch last year and we are hoping to continue this tradition year after year.

Saturday, December 5th was Ryan's 32nd Birthday. He wanted to spend it with his friends doing what he doesn't get to do very often, sing karaoke. We all met up for dinner at Shawn O'Donnells in Everett and then headed to the 13th AVE Pub in Lynnwood for karaoke. It was super fun night, but Ryan and I both reverted back to when we were 21 and drank WAY TOO much!!!!! We realized the next morning that we just can't do it like we used to! We both had a great time though and Ryan said it was one of his most favorite birthdays to date!

Snowflake Lane

The evening of December 4th, Ryan and I took the girls to Snowflake Lane in Bellevue. This is the first year we had ever been, but had heard wonderful things about it! They have drummers, fairy princesses, polar bears, penguins, "snow", and a 15 minute show of Christmas music. It was so fun and the girls had a great time and so did Ryan and I! We hope to make this a yearly tradition that we as a family can look forward to doing together.

The Nutcracker

On December 4th I took the girls to The Nutcracker at The Edmonds Center for the Arts. It was a smaller production of the much loved ballet, but it was perfectly geared towards the younger more miniature crowd. During intermission they explained everything and showed how the ballerinas could go up onto their toes, what controlled the lights, and how everyone who was apart of the production was a valuable member to make it a success.

We met up with a few of our friends and Payton was very excited to share seats with them! Gracie sat on my lap during the show and we made it over half way until she got a bit antsy and needed to stretch her legs.

We have so much to be thankful for. Every year I am more and more appreciative for what God has blessed me with. We have been thrown a few rocky roads, but the road for the most part has been pretty smooth.

Sadly this year we lost my Grandpa in May. With the holidays here, I find myself missing him more and more. Every time I go to my Grandparents house it still feels like he just isn't home and he's out playing golf and will be home later. However, Thanksgiving made it more real that Grandpa is no longer here on earth with us. This year it was important for me to be with my Grandma on Thanksgiving. I'm truly thankful for the time that I had with him and for the person that he was! I am so thankful to have such amazing Grandparents! I wish everyone could have these two fabulous individuals in their lives!

It gets hard this time of year with trying to see everyone during the holidays. Especially since Ryan and I both work in retail and both of us don't have weekends off. Trying to coordinate days and/or evenings that we can meet up with family for dinner to celebrate a holiday, gets especially tough. Hopefully our family that we didn't get to see knows how thankful we are to have them in our lives and hopefully we get to spend time with them soon!

Sadly, Ryan was sick, so he stayed home. I took the girls to Grandma's for a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. There were only ten of us, total. Many were sick, but were in our hearts as we gave thanks.

Thanksgiving morning Payton and I got up and made pumpkin bread. Every year for as long as I can remember, one of my aunts would make pumpkin bread for all of us to snack on before Thanksgiving dinner. My brother and I have always LOVED this yummy bread, so our aunts would bring a couple of extra loaves for us to take home as well!

A few years ago, my aunt passed down our "secret" family recipe for this delicious bread. Now I make the bread every fall for my little family, and we all love it!!!!!!!

Fancy Family Fun

A couple of weeks ago we had some family pictures taken in Seattle and afterwards, Payton and I went to a Fancy Nancy event at Borders. Fancy Nancy is one Payton's favorite book series and loves her Fancy Nancy doll, game, books, stickers, pretty much anything that has to do with Fancy Nancy. Since we were headed home from Seattle we stopped by Borders in Alderwood, but weren't dressed very fancy. Thankfully it wasn't a very "fancy" event. It was a book reading (which Payton already had the newest Fancy Nancy Christmas book) and some coloring. Payton was a little disappointed in the event, so I came up with an alternative. She and I headed downstairs for our own little "tea party" of hot chocolate and a latte. Yummy!

Afterwards we met up with Ryan and Gracie for lunch, who had been patiently waiting in the mall for us to be done. We all headed over to Claim Jumper, one of our family favs, for lunch.

Halloween this year wasn't as eventful as we had initially planned. Gracie broke out in hives earlier in the week and came down with a fever that wouldn't break unless she was constantly drugged for a couple of days. Payton started to not feel good Halloween day, so we had to reevaluate our initial plans. On Halloween day, we ended up missing a first birthday party, a wedding, and trick or treating with some friends at night.

Payton was begging to go trick or treating and wear her Cinderella costume. Since she was feeling better after taking a nap, Ryan decided to take her out to a couple of our neighbor's houses so she could collect a little candy. I stayed home while Gracie slept and I handed out candy to our many trick-or-treaters.

She was so excited!!!

Next year we will make Halloween more fun! Thankfully everyone is feeling better for the time being and hives have finally left our house!

Wednesday, October 21st, Payton's class had a field trip to Craven Farm in Snohomish. It was our second time to the pumpkin patch this year, but we were very excited to go again. It was a VERY rainy day, which made for a wet and muddy experience, but it was still fun!

Trip to Carleton Farms

Last week we went to Carleton Farms in Lake Stevens. Ryan and I have been going there every year since we've been married and have made it a tradition to take the girls now too. This year, Ryan's mom came with us! The weather held up, we picked out a few pumpkins, and a wonderful time together. We can't wait to do it again next year!

Thursday, October 8th, Ryan and I headed out of town to Portland, OR for a few days child-free. The girls went to my parent's house in Cle Elum to be spoiled rotten while we had much needed alone time! Ryan had been planning our little getaway since August and we were so excited to be alone, we could barely contain ourselves!

We went to a street fair in Oregon. It's held every Saturday and Sunday, ten months out of the year. This particular vendor had all of his artwork displayed on his bicycle.

We wrapped up our weekend at Buffalo Wild Wings.. very yummy.

Ryan and I had such a wonderful time together! We slept in, held hands, shopped, ate yummy food, spent a lot of time together chatting and laughing, and overall reconnected. It felt like we were dating again. Our hopes are to have a four day getaway every October, just the two of us.

Friday October 2nd, the four of us headed over to Cle Elum to celebrate my Dad's birthday. All of us kids (my brothers and I) and our families were coming over for the birthday celebration during the day and then Dad and Rosie's friends were coming over for dessert in the evening.

My step-brother Jon and his family arrived around noon. My step-mom Rosie loves to take pictures, so we all knew that since we were going to all be together for the day, to be prepared to have a photo session! Here's a few that I took with my camera. Sunday, September 27th, the Chicago Bears were in town to play the Seahawks. Our good friend Matt has season tickets and since he was going to be out of town, he gave Ryan his ticket. Anyone who knows Ryan, knows that The Bears are his favorite team! If Chicago doesn't do well, it makes our house a little uncomfortable and quiet. Quiet can be nice, but not this kind of quiet.

Thankfully The Bears beat the Hawks and it made for a wonderful evening at home for our family! Thank you Chicago! Ryan said that this is the first time that The Bears beat the Seahawks in Seattle since he was born (1977).

Payton LOVES to help cook! Like here, here, here, here, and here just to give a few examples. Any time Payton can help, we let her. She enjoys seeing dinner made from start to finish and it's helped with her trying new things. Especially since she's such a picky eater!

Ryan wanted to make homemade pizza and Payton loved being able to make it the way she wanted it! Simple dinner, but oh so yummy!

On Tuesday, September 15th, Payton started pre-school. *Sniff sniff* I can't believe my baby girl is now in pre-school. Yes, it's only pre-school, but still, she's going to school.

On Monday, Ryan went to the Meet and Greet so Payton could see her classroom and meet her teacher. I unfortunately couldn't go since I had to work, but I was very thankful Ryan got to see where Payton was going and be able to meet her teacher too.

Payton was so excited to go to school, I don't know if she even slept the night before!

Not me!!! Gracie got a fat lip WHILE we were at the doctor for Payton!

Ok, so this is what happened.. Payton had had a cough for about a week and Ryan and I didn't think it was much to worry about. But since she is starting school, we wanted to rule out any sort of sickness so she could attend her first day! SO, last week I took her to the doc's office.

Picture it, Payton sitting up on the exam table, me and Gracie in one of the chairs. Gracie's squirming, like normal, and wants to sit by herself. I put Gracie in the chair next to me, next to the wall so there was support on either side of her. The nurse was talking to me and I was turning to face the nurse and within 2.2 seconds we heard a thud, gasp, and wail! Yes, Gracie fell on the floor. Her front tooth nicked the inside of her lip, causing it to instantly swell. The doctor was in the exam room next to ours with another patient and heard the thud and scream and came over right away. At first he couldn't tell if she was going to need stitches, but thankfully, she didn't. Phew!

I couldn't get a good picture of how big her lip was. It got about as large as a peanut m&m. Thankfully the swelling has come down almost fully, but it's still black and blue inside. Our poor babe!

Oh, and Payton is just fighting the cough on her own. She doesn't hasn't had a fever since we took her and she hasn't been complaining about her ears, so all is good with Payton!!

Went a little Loon-y

Ryan, the girls and I headed to Loon Lake, WA to visit my parents who have a house right on the lake. Last year the girls and I took a couple of trips and would like to do so every year. This year, Ryan was able to join us and the four of us had such a great time spending the week with my Dad and Step-mom. We feel so spoiled that we had the opportunity to visit. Payton looks forward to it and is already talking about going next year, but wants to go without Mommy and Daddy.

One of the neighbor's dogs. He was "fishing". There were a bunch of fish swimming around right there and at one point, he dove in to catch one. Sadly, no luck..

Payton swam from the beach to the end of the dock all on her own! I was shocked standing in the lake and her swimming away from me. I sadly forgot my camera, but thankfully Grandma was standing on the dock taking pictures of my brave little girl!!

Payton "adopted" a frog while we were there. She discovered it in one of Grandma's flower pots and named him Ribbit. Every time she would hear him croaking outside, she would go running to find him.

While we were there, my dad made cement steps leading from the dock up to the grass and had saved a step to put the Girl's hand prints in it. My step-brother's children had visited a few weeks earlier, so their hand prints were on a couple of the other steps. I love that their hand prints from this summer will forever be at the lake!!!

Gracie tried squeezing the cement, so we did her footprints instead.

Ryan flew home on Tuesday while the three of girls stayed until Friday.

We had a fabulous time at the Lake! When we are there, we feel like there is nothing we need to do and can truly relax. Ryan and I got to go on a date night, which was so appreciated, the girls got spoiled with hugs and kisses from Grandpa and Grandma, we swam, we slept, we drank coffee on the deck in the early morning hours, had wonderful conversation, and add another year at the lake to our memory books.

Baseball game, take three.

The Zdenek family has been to see three different teams, at three different parks, obviously three different times. And each time has been a little different. The first was in Chicago for the Sox, the second was in Seattle for the Sox vs. the Mariners, and the third was last night in Everett to see the Aqua Sox. Last night, was by far the easiest and most successful of the three with taking the girls to a ballpark!

Brittany (Ryan's sister) coaches a competitive gymnastics team and their team was invited to preform pre-Aqua Sox game. Britt asked if we would we come and we were all excited to go!

Every Thursday from 10:20-11, we have been going to the North Kirkland Community Center so Payton can pliate, sashay, and point her toes as a ballet dancer would do. Gracie and I, along with the other moms and siblings, sit outside of the dance room, while eight little dancers spin and twirl.

Yesterday was Payton's last dance for this class, and all of us parents were able to come and watch what the girls have learned.

Of course when the White Sox are in town, we have to go to at least one game! Since we took the girls to the Sox game while we were in Chicago, Ryan and I thought, why not take them here too! Payton's been asking to see the Sox since we saw them last, so she was looking forward to going again. If only this experience had gone like that one, with numerous family members willing to hold Gracie throughout the game..

Oh, what could have been..

First, Payton did terrific. She was super thrilled to share in the excitement with her Daddy!

However, our little peanut Gracie, not so much! She chucked, yes chucked, the leftovers of a hot dog with ketchup on it, at a couple sitting in front of us. I proceeded to apologize and wipe down this young guy with baby wipes while giving him money for dry cleaning. Thankfully he and his girlfriend were super nice and understanding. Later, Gracie decided to take a piece of a pretzel out of my hand and pelt a teenage girl, sitting in front of us, whom had moved due to Gracie's "cheering" earlier in the game, all whilst arching her back and tapping/kicking the ketchup spotted couple with her foot. By the time the seventh inning stretch rolled around, we stretched our way out of there. I'm sure the Mariner fans who were sitting near our obnoxious White Sox family were very thankful we left.

Prior to us leaving, Ryan received a phone call from his cousin Matt in Illinois, asking us if we were at the Sox game. Ryan said of course and Matt told him that Payton was on TV back in Chicago!

Maybe we have a future Baseball player on our hands!

After we left Safeco, we listened to the rest of the game in the car. The White Sox ended up winning three to one!

Ryan and I aren't sure how soon the four of us will be back to Safeco together. Baseball games might not be Gracie's thing quite yet, but it made for an experience and that's what we were going for, right? Not to actually sit and watch a baseball game!

Last Friday our friends Jason, Nika, and their daughter Kiley had planned to came over to have dinner. When Ryan called me to let me know our plans, I came up with a bright idea to leave all three of the girls at home with Ryan and Jason and for Nika and I to go to dinner. Thankfully he thought it was a great idea as well!

I can't remember the last time Nika and I went out for longer than an hour or two without the girls. It was so nice to be able to sit in the bar, have a cocktail, hear each other talk without being interrupted, or having to tell someone to stay in her seat, or pick food up off the floor or cut food into little pieces (I could go on for hours, but I'll spare you!).

We started out at Red Robin (one of my favorites that sadly I don't get to go to very often) and then we went to a movie following. We didn't get back to my house until close to one in the morning and Ryan and Jason were watching a movie and had all three girls asleep.

Friday was very needed and very appreciated! I look forward to our next date!

Brianna gets married

Saturday, August 1st, my cousin Brianna married her best friend, Ryan. The planned a destination wedding at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, WA.

I was Brianna's mom and dad's flower girl when they got married 27 years ago, and my brother was their ring-bearer. So Brianna asked our children to be in her wedding and of course our kids couldn't have been happier to participate!

On Friday July 31st, Brianna picked me up at 7:30 a.m. to head up to the resort to help my sister-in-law Rachael arrange bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres, etc. I'm not much help in the floral department, but was more than willing to be Rachael's "go-fer".

The next morning, August 1st was wedding day! The girls needed to be ready for pictures by 2, so I started on Payton's hair around 1. I didn't know how well Payton's hair would hold curls and how well she would sit still, so I wanted to get a goo head start.

Jordan's third birthday

Yesterday was Payton's best friend, Jordan's third birthday. On Saturday we attended her party at Willis Tucker Spray Pad. We've been there many times before, it is a fabulous place for a birthday party! Payton and Gracie had so much fun!

Today is my Grandpa Gail's 78th Birthday. I wish with all my heart that he was here on earth with us so we could celebrate with him. Since he isn't, I pray that he's on a very green golf course in the sky with a Guinness in one hand and club in the other!

Grandpa, I think of you everyday and I miss you more and more as each day passes. I wish you didn't have to go so early and you were here with us, but I'm happy to know that you are with me everyday in my heart. I love you so much and I know we will see each other again.

BEWARE: Long posts up ahead!

Tuesday, June 16th our family flew to Chicago, IL to visit Ryan's extended family on his mom's side for a much needed reunion. This was the girls first trip on a plane! We had been talking it up to Payton for the months prior and needless to say, she was super excited for all of the upcoming events that were planned!

Ryan wanted to sit in between both of the girls so he could have more leg room. I fortunately had the seat behind them and all to myself, so I was able to turn on my Ipod, sit back and relax for the four hour flight.

Wednesday, Granny came with the four of us shopping. Ryan was in his element with all of the White Sox apparel! Us girls, we were just happy to shop!

Thursday night Ryan's brother, Nathan, and his family had flown in. So we all had planned to get together that Friday.

Our initial plan that day was to go to the aquarium. So all 14 of us (Ryan's Uncle Mike, Aunt Nikki, Dana, Krista, and Ava. Nathan, Taunia, Cedrick, Cassius and Mia. And our family of four) got on the train and headed to downtown Chicago (not too long of a ride) and then got on a bus to travel a few blocks. Admission to the aquarium was free that week due to a recent remodel, so there was a two hour minimum wait to get in. No thanks! So, we got hot dogs and fries and sat outside of the aquarium and ate lunch.

Saturday Uncle Mike and Aunt Nikki had a luau at their house. This was the first time that we were going to be able to see the majority of our family.

We were introduced to a new game while we were visiting: Bags. Or also known at the Richardson house, corn hole. This game requires zero athleticism, little skill, and a frosty beverage.

Everyone would play this for hours! I sadly couldn't perfect my toss! I was either too far to side or not hard or soft enough. It's a really fun game and we are looking forward to having it at our house too!

Chicago highlights part two..

On Monday, June 22nd, we all went to Kiddieland. Kiddieland is an amusement park in Melrose Park, IL and it has been around for 81 years. It was so special for Ryan to take his girls there since he went there every summer when he was a kid. Not only did he go when he was young, but his mom used to go when she was a kid, and so did Granny. Granny told us that she has been going to Kiddieland since she was Gracie's age! Sadly, this is the last year that Kiddieland will be open. We all had a great time and it was fun to spend the day with all of our family!!

Ryan and Brad have known each other since they were little. Brad's mom Joanne has been best friends with Ryan's mom Joanne since they were in high school!

On Tuesday, Nikki and I took Ava and Payton to get mani/pedis. This was Payton's first. She did really well, but thought it would be fun to run around the salon, so it wasn't very relaxing for me! ;)

She wanted the same color on her fingers that Ava picked.

Wednesday we met up with Ryan's aunt Carrie and her kids and his Grandpa and Grandma Zdenek at Giordano's.

That night, Ryan and Payton went outside to catch lightening bugs. Ryan caught one and put it in the Gateraid bottle so Payton could see it up close.

We had a wonderful time in Chicago! It was so hard to leave and none of us were ready to come back. If we could we would fly back out tomorrow! It was great to spend time with family and catch up. Ryan and I wish we could see everyone more often! We truly miss them!

Tomorrow morning, the family and I are headed to Chicago for ELEVEN days!! We have a few plans; visiting family, going to the zoo, checking out Kiddieland, catching a White Sox game, eating A LOT of yummy food, doing some shopping, etc. Try not to be jealous.. ;)

We're no where near ready to go or even close to being finished with packing, but for sure we will make our flight! We better!

This past Saturday, our little coconut turned ONE!! Sniff sniff..

Ryan and I can't believe that our baby girl is now one, and now considered a toddler not a baby.

One year ago, Ryan and I welcomed another beautiful little girl to our wonderful family. Gracie came as a welcomed surprise. Unlike Payton, we weren't "trying" for Gracie, but were SO VERY excited that she choose us as her parents!

She was perfect! Everything that Ryan, Payton and I prayed for.
Our doctor decided to deliver her early due to her lack of movement. Dr. Skrypzak figured that it was time for our little coconut to enter the world, and we were ready to meet her!
Gracie was born with beautiful red hair. I was shocked when the nurse brought her to me! I thought they hadn't cleaned her off yet, but nope! She has RED hair! She gets it from both Ryan and my sides of the family.

Ryan and I were both a little nervous on how Payton would take to being a big sister, but she has been everything that we would've asked for. Payton LOVES Gracie and tries to protect her.

We were so excited to take our little girl home and start our lives as a family of four. BUT we were also very nervous. How were we going to juggle having two kids?? We had forgotten what it was like to have a newborn in the house.

Thankfully, Gracie was easy. She slept a lot, she was an excellent eater, and only cried when she was hungry or needed her diaper changed. A LOT different than our first time around! ;)

One month down, we were in the swing of things!

We couldn't get enough of her smiles and thankfully at two months, she was right now schedule.

Was rolling over by three months..

Trying to crawl by four.

So happy still at five months.

Couldn't stop her from trying to move at six..

At seven, she was off and there was no stopping her from crawling EVERYWHERE!

Gracie has brought us so much happiness and is such a love.

Even at ten months, her personality was still growing.

I can't believe my little girl is one. It makes me so sad that the first year has come and gone so fast. We're excited for this next year too though.

Gracie, your daddy and I are so happy of the little girl that you are and look forward to what the future has in store for you! We love you so much and thank you for choosing us to be your parents!!!!! We truly feel blessed!

One year ago today..

On this particular day one year ago, Ryan and I were getting ready for my c-section that was going to take place the next morning. Our baby girl was originally scheduled to be delivered on June 19th, but on this day last year, I wasn't feeling her move much, so my doctor decided that it was best if she was delivered the following day.. Friday, June 13th, 2008. One year ago today, we were a family of three, preparing to become a family of four. One year ago today, Ryan and I didn't know how much another child could fill our hearts with love as much our baby girl.

Tomorrow is our baby girl's first birthday. I'm having a hard time with how fast this day has come. I just can't believe my baby is going to be one..

Long overdue visit!

Friday morning I met up with my friend Janet for coffee. Janet was initially my Stroller Strides instructor when I started back in January of 2007, but she became so much more than that! She is one of my good friends, someone who has taught me how to juggle motherhood and friendships while still taking time out for myself. I owe her a lot! She brought together a wonderful group of girls, got us to workout together, and now are forever friends!

Janet moved to Southern California last June to be closer to her family. I completely understood why she moved, but selfishly wished she still lived here!

Ever since they met when they Payton was eleven months old and Kendal was nine months, they have been little trouble makers. The two of them wouldn't even say anything, they would telepathically scheme what they were going to do.

At first when Kendal and Payton saw each other, they were a little shy. But maybe five minutes passed and they were back to their old selves.

Janet, we miss you terribly and wish we saw you more often!!! I'm looking forward to coming down and visiting you and all the trouble you and I can get in to together!!!!!! Miss you and love you! Thank you for EVERYTHING you have taught me!!!!!

Ryan's 33rd Birthday

Last Friday, June 5th, was my brother Ryan's 33rd Birthday. My sister-in-law Rachael threw an impromptu surprise birthday party for him at her parent's house that night.

I promise, we feed her! Payton loved to eat with Luke too. We are constantly trying to pull Gracie away from his bowl when he's eating so she doesn't eat his food, but sometimes she's too quick. On this day, I had to stop and take a picture or two.

Six years ago today, I married my best friend. I can't believe it's been six years! It feels like yesterday that we said "I do" to forever.

I love you Ryan and I'm so happy that you are my friend. I feel so incredibly lucky to have you in my life and I look forward to the rest of our lives together! I always have fun with you and it's so nice to know that I have you to come home to, laugh with, cry to, smile at, and love. Thank you for being there for me and for being the best daddy I could ask for for my children. My life started when I met you and I love what we have.

Last weekend, May 23rd, Ryan's and my good friends Calen and Tiffany got married. It was a beautiful wedding with beautiful weather and a gorgeous bride and handsome groom.

Tiffany asked me to be one of her bridesmaids for their big day, and I couldn't have been more honored! The wedding was so much fun! I'll share a few pictures that are worth sharing.. :)

Momma and Taylor are doing great!

Taylor is gaining weight and getting bigger everyday.
I think she looks a lot like how her big sister Jordan did when she was a baby. But I think Taylor looks more like Natalie, whereas Jordan looks more like Jesse

I was so excited to go and visit the Shapiro's while they were at the hospital. I've been lucky enough to be able to cuddle Taylor a few other times as well.

I miss holding a baby this small! She so beautiful and I can't get enough!!!!

Congratulations Natalie, Jesse, and Jordan! Your family is so beautiful and Taylor is such a precious little peanut! I'm so happy for you!!! xoxo

Let the countdown begin

I can't believe I'm going to say it.. Gracie is going to be One in less than four weeks! Ugh! I don't even like to think about it. I'm already planning her birthday and I'm sick to my stomach just thinking about it. My baby girl is growing up too fast.

She climbs on EVERYTHING! She loves to dance and she'll sing along with Payton or the radio while in the car. Gracie has started clapping and puts her arms in the air when you say "touch down!". She also waves to you when you wave to her.. well sometimes. The other day she was looking at the pictures I have on our end table and she saw Daddy and said "Dada". Sooo cute!
Gracie and Payton are very different. Payton is very independent and was as a baby, where I could leave the room and she would play by herself. Gracie will play by herself just fine, but she needs to be able to see me. If someone is holding her, she'll occasionally look around the room to find me. I love it, but it makes for a difficult day to get anything done.

Gracie's growing more adventurous everyday with her climbing. Thankfully she waits at the top of the stairs for me to come and bring her down.

Our little coconut brings us joy everyday. She's a blessing and Ryan and I are so thankful for the family we have created. Let the countdown begin.. Gracie's going to be ONE in a few weeks. Let's home I'm not a complete mess.
